Witbank House was built during the 1880's, at least partially through the generosity of the residents of Maldon who held a public subscription to aid a young widow and her four children, orphaned in a mining accident. (A photo of these early residents is in the hallway).
Over the years the house has expanded as need and ability allowed. At least partly by the addition of a second miner's cottage which were apparently transported about the country by bullock dray.
Today Witbank House retains significant historical features; high ceilings, open fireplaces and Baltic floorboards (with the original hand made nails) as well as ducted heating/air conditioning, a fully equipped modern kitchen and spa.
